Apex Legends is one of the most popular games in the battle royale genre today, undoubtedly. The game was released in 2019 and soon entered the competitive scene with an EA-sponsored tournament called Apex Legends Global Circuit, aka ALGS. In September, the second year of the competition will begin. And this year, it’s going to have a prize pool of $5 million!
Every player can take part in the tournament, no matter which platform they are playing the game. At the end of various stages, the teams that make it to the ALGS Championship round will fight for the title. But this year, the way the tournament works has changed a little.
Challenger Circuit, the first stage of ALGS, is a round that the registered teams will compete. The best of these teams will advance to the regional qualifiers called Regional Pro League.
The Regional Pro League is a stage that brings out the best teams in the regions. In ALGS, there are five regions: EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), NA (North America), SA (South America), APAC South (Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand), and APAC North (Japan, Korea). The top 40 teams in each region will fight each other to be the best. At the end of the regular-season competitions, the fate of the teams will be determined according to the placements. The top teams will advance to the playoffs. Also, these playoffs are likely to be played in live events if the pandemic is in control. In addition, the teams that finish bottom in the Regional Pro League will face those from Challenger Circuit to stay in the league.
As we mentioned, the top teams in the Pro Leagues of each region will advance to the Playoffs. Since the competitiveness naturally increases, there’s a chance that the teams will compete in live events. In this round, teams will do their best to advance to the last stage of the championship. But $1 million of the prize pool will be for teams at this stage. The top 40 teams of all regions will take part in the last round of the tournament.
The final stage of the tournament has a total prize pool of $2 million. Whether it’s the team from Challenger Circuit or the Apex Legends team of a major organization, all participants will fight each other to become ALGS champions.
ALGS will begin next month and end on July 2022. The tournament probably will draw more attention because of the new prize pool and the inclusion of console players. But the first ALGS also had 3.5 million hours of views in total. We’ll see if it’s going to be even more popular in its second year.
If you want to take part in the tournament, make sure to check the official rules first. If you know the rules and want to register now, you can also do it from here.
