Apex Legends players are waiting for a buff for Season 4’s legend, Revenant. But it seems like the devs are struggling with it. Since the character’s launch, we didn’t see any “game-changer” buffs for Revenant, but the fans of the simulacrum still enjoy while playing with it. Actually, its kit is quite strong enough for the game. But statistically, Revenant -especially in ranked and pro matches- is one of the legends with the lowest pick rate.
Of course, the Revenant players are not okay with it. The game has changed since the start of Season 4, and our scary simulacrum is having a bad time while trying to adopt the new gameplay.
Before mentioning the devs opinion about buffing Revenant, let’s remember Revenant’s current abilities.
Apex Legends is one of the few games that use social media actively. Devs mostly hear what players and the community say about any specific topic. Recently, they answered the players’ questions about the game’s current state and plans on a Q&A post on Reddit. The Revenant mains asked if Respawn thinking about buffing their main. Lead Designer of Apex Legends, Daniel Klein, explained their thoughts about it.
Redditor: As a longtime Revenant player and a main of his, I feel one thing that really got brought to light this season was how little damage his tactical does in comparison to Fuse. Beyond simply his passive, I think there is an avenue there for buffing potential.
Daniel Klein: We do want to be very careful not to position abilities as primary damage dealers. Revenant’s tactical is pretty reliably hittable, so, probably not a great candidate for more damage.
Actually, that perspective is why Apex Legends is a player-skill-based game than a legend (or character)-skill-based game. Of course, legends skills will help you in the game, but what makes you a winner is your aiming and the ability of game-reading. Even in 1v1 situations, you can’t win the fight if you are lacking in aiming. If Apex devs won’t working with that perspective, the game will be like Valorant, where characters’ skills can determine the winner.
Another Redditor commented that the Revenant’s tactical ability is already strong enough to fight against. And, Daniel Klein agreed with it, but he told that it’s clear that Revenant needs buffs.
Redditor: If anything I think that part of the Revenant’s kit is overpowered, his tactical is extremely frustrating to fight against. Not only because of the silence effect but because of the ridiculous visual clutter on your screen and from the orb itself. Not only that, but the silence effect persists after full wiping a Revenant team. That part should be removed just like the Caustic ult change this season. Don’t get me wrong, Revenant needs some help, but his tactical is not the area to buff.
Daniel Klein: That’s what makes buffing him so hard; it’s clear he needs buffs, but it’s also equally clear that the tactical and ult shouldn’t be straight up buffed.
It was rumored that when Season 7 comes, there will be optimization on Revenant’s hitbox. But we’ve never seen it in any patch notes. Maybe, the devs will make changes in Revenant’s hitbox to balance the legend with the future buffs. Also, Klein stated that Revenant’s tactical and ultimate abilities can’t be buffed. That means it’s possible to see some changes in his passive ability. We, the Revenant players are hoping that the upcoming changes won’t ruin the fun of playing with him.
