Respawn Entertainment‘s adventure that started with Titanfall continues at full speed. The studio, which first made a hit with Titanfall, came up with a new project in 2019. Apex Legends, also set in the Titanfall universe, quickly became one of the most successful battle royale games. The game has released eight seasons so far and added a new character in each season. And according to their announcement, they kind of prepared four upcoming legends.
During this time, the Apex Legends devs, who always listen to their players, want to release new characters without an error or mistake. Chad Grenier, game director of Apex Legends, joined a podcast recently and gave some tips about their plans. Grenier, who said they were preparing four new characters, did not share any other exciting information.
We always have a handful (character concepts) that are in various phases. There’s a bunch in prototype; they don’t have models, they don’t have personalities, they just have their ability set.
We need to make sure we give (the writers) enough time to write (narratives) and the artists enough time to build the character model and enough time to do a proper tease and season theme around that Legend. We usually know from about a year out.

Character design is not that easy. You have to keep the strength and abilities of characters in balance. So, the developers are naturally quite careful about it. They also leave it to the players to test new characters. After all, they are busy with developing, and playing is a different experience.
We’re good developers, but not the best players of the game… So when you have the pros come in and play, you get a lot of insight.
Chad Grenier
As an Apex Legends fan, I’ve always liked Respawn Entertainment’s behavior about the game. They have made a new epoch in listening to their players, and they’ve set an example for a lot of games. With less than four weeks left in Season 8, we are wondering what to expect in the future. We’ve also learned that the next year is partly ready, if not in full detail. Of course, no one knows what will happen in a year (but we are kind of guessing the upcoming legend changes that will come with Season 9), but Respawn has won recognition again with these statements.
