To celebrate International Women’s Day and the role that gaming and esports plays in driving equal opportunities for young women, David Beckham sat down with Guild Esports content creators, Niki and Harrie, to discuss their own journey to becoming a success in the industry and how they are helping to empower younger girls to follow a similar route.
“It’s inspiring to hear that you’re part of a world that is giving women the same opportunities as everyone else, and that is the way it should always have been.”
David Beckham
As part of the conversation, Beckham talks about the women that have inspired him throughout life, which includes Jessica Ennis, The Williams Sisters and The Lionesses. He also talks about the excitement he has for his daughter, Harper, being able to grow up in a world that is becoming more equal for women, especially in gaming and esports.

“It’s really great that we have given women the opportunity to go further and start their own businesses and brands, expand and explore everything that they want to. A few years ago, we couldn’t even think about that.”
Niki Nichachu
Beckham is the co-owner of Guild Esports and has brought his own experience starting off as a professional player to the organisation, in the form of Guild Academy. This is a unique system of coaching excellence for esports players, aged 11 and upwards, to develop their in-game and life skills in a safe and secure environment. As well as esports training, it also offers sessions on nutrition, mental health and routes into other roles within the industry, like Beckham had at Man Utd academy.
