Days Gone & Many More PlayStation Games Will Come to PC

Sony announced that it will bring many more of its games to the PC platform, starting with Days Gone in the spring. Days Gone was released for PlayStation 4 in 2019. Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan said that they will continue to bring exclusives for PlayStation 4 to the PC platform.

Although Sony eased its exclusivity stance significantly when it announced the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn last year, it was still reluctant to release more games to the PC. When asked why the company changed its mind, chief executive officer of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan stated that there were several factors. He said that Horizon Zero Dawn’s success on PC showed them that there is a significant following for Sony’s games on the PC platform.

A few things changed. We find ourselves now in early 2021 with our development studios and the games that they make in better shape than they’ve ever been before. Particularly from the latter half of the PS4 cycle our studios made some wonderful, great games. There’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience and recognise the economics of game development, which are not always straightforward. The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the calibre of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown. So it’s a fairly straightforward decision for us to make.

We assessed the exercise in two ways. Firstly, in terms of the straightforward success of the activity of publishing the game on PC, people liked it and they bought it. We also looked at it through the lens of what the PlayStation community thought about it. There was no massive adverse reaction to it. So we will continue to take mission steps in this direction.

Although the price of the game is not set, the Steam page is now live.

After the success of Horizon Zero Dawn, it was almost certain that Sony would bring its other games to the PC. Of course, this does not mean that the big games, such as God of War, will come to PC. However, I wouldn’t mind if my opinion was disproven. It would also be great if I could play some of those games announced at the February State of Play Event.

I hope that more PlayStation 4 games will be available on PC in the next year because we are currently in a huge game shortage due to the pandemic.
