The dream of most esports organizations has finally come true in Thailand since esports has been recognized as an official sport in country.
China recently imposed restrictions on online games because it was addictive to young people. Thailand, another Asian country, made the opposite move.
According to The Nation Thailand, the Thailand Esports Federation has approved esports as an official sport. Also, the country has decided to incorporate everything related to sports into esports. This includes the incentive fund.
The government, which now recognizes esports as a professional sport, announced this decision in the Royal Gazette (official newspaper). With this approval, esports organizations and players can receive funding and support from the Sports Authority of Thailand’s Professional Sports Incentive Fund.
Sports Authority officials will establish management for professional sports events, clubs and associations. In addition, this will help the development of esports players and promote esports players at home and abroad.
Thailand Esports Federation shared the decision announced in the official newspaper on its official Facebook account.
There were no specific statements about individual games. Thailand, which has strong teams in MOBA scene, made a very progressive move. With this, esports has become the 14th official sport of Thailand.
