Daniel “Vorborg” Vorborg, the head coach of Evil Geniuses, has stepped down from his position after ten months. Vorborg revealed that he was benched by the organization due to a shift in their strategic direction. Despite this, he expressed his determination and passion for coaching, stating that he loves his work and wants to prove himself once again.
Vorborg joined Evil Geniuses in August, taking over as head coach from Damien “maLeK” Marcel. He played a significant role in the team’s unconventional Blueprint project during his ten-month tenure.
During his time as head coach, Vorborg oversaw several roster changes aimed at improving the team’s performance. However, these changes did not yield the desired results. Despite making an appearance at the IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage and securing a solitary victory against IHC, the team’s overall performance did not improve compared to the previous iteration.
At the beginning of 2023, Evil Geniuses made further roster changes by removing Tsvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov and promoting Jerric “wiz” Jiang. The team had a strong start to the season, defeating Heroic at BLAST Premier Spring Groups, leading Vorborg to express optimism about their future.
Unfortunately, their early success did not translate into consistent results, as the team struggled and experienced multiple last-place finishes. They ultimately failed to qualify for the Paris Major. In an effort to turn things around, Evil Geniuses brought in Ismail “refrezh” Ali, but the team’s performance did not improve as expected.
While the exact nature of the organization’s change in direction has not been disclosed, a report suggests that Evil Geniuses plans to promote their EG Black roster to the main squad in time for BLAST Fall Groups.
