All Announcements From PlayStation State of Play

It’s been a great week for Sony fans. This year’s first State of Play event was broadcasted. For those who don’t know: State of Play is a live event where Sony announces the PlayStation roadmap for the next few months. If you caught last week’s Nintendo Direct, it’s pretty much the same type of deal.

You can watch the official video covering the whole event down below:

February 25 2021 PlayStation State of Play

What Did We Learn During The Event?

Final Fantasy VII Remake

The biggest news was that Final Fantasy VII Remake would receive a special PS5 update that improved its graphics and load times, as well as adding a photo mode. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, a new DLC pack for the game, will focus on a new member Yuffie Kisaragi, and show us a story we’ve never seen in the original FFVII.

FFVII Remake’s PS5 update will be free for those who already own the game. However, the DLC will be paid. The price of the DLC has not been announced yet.

Deathloop

Deathloop is likely to be the last game released by Bethesda on the PlayStation platform (or not). It’s coming out on May 21st and is an incredibly stylish FPS/stealth game where characters fight each other to break or maintain a time loop. If you are a fan of the Dishonored series, you should be really excited.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is an action game with a colorful aesthetic inspired by East Asian mythology. We will be controlling a young girl who must use the power of friendly spirits to fight all kinds of dangerous monsters. The game consists of combat, platforming and puzzle sequences and will be released on August 24 for PS4 and PS5.

Oddworld: Soulstorm

Oddworld: Soulstorm is going to be a “2.9-D” platforming game. The difference from 2.5-D is not clear, however, the developers truly believe that this will be a unique game. In the game, you will be able to play in two different ways. You can control your enemies and make them do whatever you want, or make them fight against each other. Your actions in the game will also change the course of the story. Oddworld: Soulstorm will be released on April 6 for PS4 and PS5.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach

Horror game fans might want to check out Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, an atmospheric game, where you try to dodge animatronic robots at a kids’ entertainment center. Previous games of the series had become famous on live streaming platforms. I think this will also be a hint among that crowd. It’s coming out both on PS4 & PS5 sometime this year.

Solar Ash

Solar Ash is the new game from the studio behind Hyper Light Drifter. The action game with a colorful world has a simple yet fluid combat system. In the game, our main character will try to save the world. Solar Ash is scheduled to release on PS4 & PS5 this year.

Sifu

Sifu looks like a stylish fighting game inspired by Asian action movies. It is scheduled to be released for PS4 & PS5 in 2021.

Knockout City

Knockout City is a team-based sports game where you compete for control of a ball and defeat your enemies using character specific abilities. The game will be released on May 21st. You can also sign up to participate in the beta version of the game on the official website.

Returnal

Returnal is an action game where you control Selene, an astronaut exploring a dangerous alien world. Each time you die in the game, the world will be reset. This will result in new opportunities and challenges. The game will be released on April 30th.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

You will be able to play the PS5 version of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time with 60 FPS and 4K resolution. The game will also benefit from the new controller feedback engine and 3D sound technology that comes with the PS5. You will be able to transfer your data from PS4 to PS5. However, it is currently unclear whether you need to repurchase the game.

It seems like with this event, the appetites of PlayStation fans have been satisfied to a degree. However, as the big PlayStation series were not at the event, it seems likely that a special State of Play event will be held for them in the coming months.
