Gen.G, a multinational esports organization, has recently partnered with Manchester City, an English football club. The collaboration aims to create special experiences and engagement opportunities for their fans, including organizing events in South Korea and the UK.
This partnership between Gen.G and Manchester City comes after the football club’s recent announcement about their upcoming visit to Seoul, South Korea, as part of their preparations for the 2023/24 season. The collaboration provides an additional chance for both entities to enhance and expand Manchester City‘s presence in Asia.
Along with fan experiences, the partnership will also involve the exploration of co-branded merchandise between Manchester City and Gen.G. They will focus on launching limited-edition products that appeal to their fans.
In the past, Manchester City has collaborated with the North American esports organization FaZe Clan since 2019. This collaboration included hosting a pop-up event ahead of a Premier League match against Liverpool.
Manchester City has seen significant growth in its own esports division in recent years, establishing professional teams in popular games like Fortnite and EA Sports FIFA. The team’s roster includes notable talents such as ‘Shellzz,’ who is the reigning ePremier League Champion of the 2020/21 season, and ‘Threats,’ the winner of the 2023 DreamHack San Diego competition.
Arnold Hur, CEO of Gen.G Esports, talked about the partnership:
We’ve been on a search to learn from the sports world’s best about what it takes to maintain a championship mindset even under the brightest lights of competition, and we are excited to work with the newly crowned champions, Manchester City under the banner of GEN CITY. We are incredibly excited about this partnership both for our competitive pro and educational academy teams and hope to build upon this collaboration into the future.
