One of the most successful in-game leaders in Counter-Strike history, gla1ve, has announced that he is ending his active playing career and will continue his journey as a coach. The 30-year-old Danish player, who wrote his name in esports history in golden letters with the 4 Major championships he won with Astralis, is hanging up his mouse and keyboard to start a new career.
gla1ve, who has been on the bench for ENCE since July, officially announced his retirement from playing. Expressing excitement for the next stage of his career, the experienced figure now wants to use the leadership experience he has gained over the years in a coaching position.
gla1ve told HLTV:
“I always knew I would become a coach one day. I have learned so many useful things throughout my career as an IGL, both in-game and also outside the game, and now I am just looking forward to being able to use all that as a coach.”
gla1ve
gla1ve will be remembered especially for his achievements during the Astralis era. Joining the team in 2016 and quickly initiating the ‘Astralis Era’, gla1ve achieved 4 Major championships and the first Intel Grand Slam victory with his team. Considered one of the names who changed the CS:GO meta with his tactical intelligence and leadership skills, gla1ve also proved his individual talent by placing 8th on HLTV’s Top 20 Players list in 2018.
After leaving Astralis and transferring to ENCE, gla1ve managed to reach the playoffs at IEM Katowice 2024 with the Polish core roster, but stability could not be achieved in the following period. The player, who last achieved victory with his team at Elisa Masters Espoo 2024, was benched in July.
With this decision, gla1ve became the third name from the legendary Astralis roster to announce his retirement. Previously, Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth and Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen had also ended their playing careers.
