MSI 2023 Got the Lowest Finals Viewership!

The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational recorded the lowest viewership for the tournament since 2019 at its grand finals.

League of Legends’ Mid-Season Invitational has been completed. Numerous teams participated in fierce competition for supremacy throughout the tournament, with the two Chinese teams making it to the championship game.

In the tournament’s championship match, rival Chinese teams JDG and BLG competed against one another. JDG eventually defeated BLG by a score of 3-1, winning the grand final.

After the dust settled, the participants found that the grand final of MSI 2023 had received relatively little attention. The game’s 1.1 million peak viewers were the lowest number for a grand final since the 2019 competition.

The grand final reached an all-time high viewership of 1.1 million, according to Esports Charts. This represents a significant decline from the grand final viewers for the previous Mid-Season invitational events, which in 2022 and 2021 attracted 2.2 million and 1.8 million viewers, respectively.

Because it was an all-Chinese competition rather than a cross-regional encounter, which normally generates more hype, this may have led to the lower-than-usual viewers.
It’s important to keep in mind that Esports Charts is unable to count Chinese viewing, which might have easily given the stats a more favorable appearance. A Twitter comment, however, claimed that even in China, where the finals match between T1 and BLG was the most watched, viewership was lower.

The most watched match in the tournament series’ history was MSI 2023, despite the rather dull viewership statistics for the final. The number of viewers (796,860 on average) and duration of viewing (61,557,385) were also record-breaking highs for MSI.
