OG’s IGL valde: “My goal is to win a Major”

OG Esports captain Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså gave an interview to HLTV.org in which he discussed personal and team ambitions. 26 years-old CS:GO pro stated that his major goal is to win a Major.

In terms of highlight moments, I think it’s been an achievement for me in itself playing on all the strong Danish teams except for Astralis and with a lot of the strong players we’ve had on our Danish scene throughout time. Just getting to play for different organizations, getting to meet different people, that has been a highlight in itself. I think, when I look back on my career once I get older, it’s something you can be really proud of, having played with all these great names. I think what’s to come, people can call it whatever they want, but I’ve always strived to become a world champion. I think that’s the reason why everybody’s playing. I don’t really care if people think it’s overambitious, if they don’t see it as realistic. My goal is to win a Major, playing on the No. 1 team in the world, and that has been the goal ever since I started playing. Being a super-competitive person, winning for me is what stands above everything, and I’ll basically do whatever it takes to get there.

Continuing the conversation on his career options, Danish stated that he did not regret not going to a stronger team in the past.

I don’t wanna comment on specifics, but there were some big offers that I got in the past that just for different reasons didn’t end up happening. Obviously, that’s super-unfortunate for me, but as I said before, regrets won’t get you anywhere. I’m just focused on what I can do now to improve as a player, still, and to make my team improve. I feel like that’s the mentality you gotta have. You can’t sit there and cry over spilled milk.

Valde talked about his current team’s goals towards the end of the conversation. He stated that OG intends to compete for victory in major events until 2022 in order to establish a footing among the professional scene’s top players.

To be completely straightforward, I wanna be on the team that is contending for titles. So that’s our goal with OG. We wanna slowly work our way into the top 10, and now that we’re in the top 10, the next step is obviously getting into the top 5 and being in the deep playoff runs, contending for trophies when we get towards the end of the year. That’s always been my goal as a player, that hasn’t changed, and I still wanna go to every Major there is and eventually hold the Major trophy. So that hasn’t changed at all.

The next OG matches will be held in the European RMR event in Bucharest from April 17 to 20, when fifteen teams will compete for eight tickets at the PGL Major Antwerp 2022.
