Overwatch 2 & Diablo 4 won’t be coming out in 2021. Activision Blizzard confirmed it during a company earnings call. The company has however made “significant progress” on its in-development titles.
This is not surprising. Pandemic has affected a lot of things in a negative way, including the video game industry. We have seen many game delays during 2020, those were already in late development and close to their release dates. I imagine that games that were in early to mid-development got the worst of it. Expect a lot of silence till late 2021.
We might have gotten Overwatch 2 & Diablo 4 in 2021 if there was no pandemic, alas that is not the case. This doesn’t mean that we won’t see any new announcements or footage from these games during the online-only BlizzCon. Just don’t go in expecting to see a release day announcement.
We will be covering BlizzCon 2021 so stay tuned for that.
