Sony Announced its New PlayStation Plus Service

After months of rumors, Sony has officially announced the redesigned PlayStation Plus subscription service.

The new service, which will be released in June, combines the features of both PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now into a single service with three different subscription tiers.

The three layers are listed as follows:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential ($9.99 per month, $59.99 per year) currently offers the same benefits as PlayStation Plus, i.e. two downloadable games per month, access to online multiplayer features, cloud storage for games and extra discounts.
  • PlayStation Plus Extra ($14.99 per month, 99.99 per year) adds a catalog of 400 PS4 and PS5 games available for download in addition to the above.
  • PlayStation Plus Premium ($17.99 per month, $119.99 per year) goes even further with 340 additional games. Classic PS1, PS2 and PSP games can be played over the cloud or by downloading. Unfortunately, PS3 games can only be played over the cloud. Limited-time game trials will also be available in this bundle.

At launch, major games like Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11 and Returnal will be available in Extra and Premium tiers.

Starting in June, PlayStation Now will migrate to the new service and will no longer be available as a standalone product. Existing customers will be automatically moved to the Premium tier. Existing PlayStation Plus users will remain in the Essential tier.
