IEM Rio Major 2022 announced as 18th CS:GO Major!

ESL has announced that the next CS:GO Major will be held in Brazil: IEM Rio Major 2022. The tournament will take place in Rio de Janeiro, which was intended to host the 16th CS:GO Major in 2020 but was postponed owing to the Coronavirus outbreak.

According to preliminary information, no major changes to the Major structure are planned, as 24 teams qualified through RMR tournaments will compete in three tournament phases beginning on October 31.

The majority of the tournament will be held behind closed doors, but the playoffs, which will take place November 10-13, will be open to the public. The Jeunesse Arena has a capacity of 15,000-22,000 people depending on the arrangement. IEM Rio, like the most recent Major, PGL Antwerp, will have a $1,000,000 prize pool.

We couldn’t be more excited to finally bring the Major to Rio de Janeiro. The ever-growing and passionate Brazilian esports community is amazing and for the past couple of years we have been hoping to provide the fans with one of the greatest esports experiences ever. Now the time is finally here and we can’t wait for the world’s best CS:GO teams to ultimately enter the Jeunesse Arena and have it shake to its foundations from the excitement from Brazil and beyond.

ESL Gaming SVP Product Management, Ulrich Schulze

IEM Rio Major 2022 will represent ESL’s return to Brazil after previously holding ESL One Belo Horizonte and ESL Pro League Season 4 Finals in the South American country, and it will be a historic event since it is the first CS:GO Major to be held outside of Europe and North America.

Tickets for the event will go on sale at 20:00 on Wednesday, May 25, with single-day early-bird seats costing $19 and lounge tickets costing $400. Tickets purchased for the 2020 event are transferable to the 2019 event. More information about tickets may be found here.
