PGL to host the first Major of 2022 in May

PGL has announced that it will organize the first CS:GO Major of 2022, with $1 million prize pool, and Antwerp, Belgium will host the most famous Counter-Strike competition. The event is set to begin on May 9 and end on May 22. The tournament intends to bring the game back to the major stage and in front of a huge audience, ending in the playoffs at Antwerps Sportspaleis, which seats 18,000 people.

After the previous four Majors in London, Katowice, Berlin, and Stockholm, this will be the fifth straight Major to be held in Europe. It will be the first time Belgium hosts a Major and an event of comparable significance in CS:GO, with Charleroi Esports in 2019 being the most noteworthy tournament to take place in the Benelux country thus far.

PGL has been selected to host its second straight Major after hosting PGL Major Stockholm in late 2021, which the organizers describe as “the most successful CS:GO tournament in history” despite a number of difficulties, particularly with the broadcast experience.

We are glad to have the opportunity to bring back the fans and players together for another CS:GO Major,” PGL’s CEO, Silviu Stroie, said. “Belgium has an impressive Counter-Strike fanbase, and many legendary players were born in this country. We are ready to offer an incredible experience for the fans inside the arena and the passionate viewers at home.

Belgium was our first option for the Major because it is situated in the heart of Europe. The location is accessible for everyone, and Sportpaleis is only 30 minutes away from the Brussels airport.” Stroie added.

PGL is also keeping a close eye on the worldwide pandemic scenario. “We are keeping a close watch on the worldwide pandemic situation, verifying every aspect, and we are ready to alter our preparations to ensure the safety of everyone engaged in this competition.” said the organizers.

Of course, PGL will also host the final RMR events, which will determine who will compete in the Antwerp Major.

Tickets for the event will be available soon, according to PGL. It’s also worth noting that the $1 million prize pool is down from the $2 million prize pool in the Stockholm Major in 2021.

Over the next few weeks, more details regarding the upcoming Major will be revealed. This will also include information about the next round of Regional Major Ranking events, which will also be arranged by PGL and used to choose the participants.
