PMGC Begins! Tencent Games has announced the highest prize pool mobile gaming tournament in history for PUBG Mobile and it is exactly $6 million dollars. PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) will begin soon!
It is a fact that we now accept that Tencent Games has taken the PUBG brand and moved it to a higher level. The total annual revenue of PUBG’s PC game in 2018 was $920 million. On the other hand, we know that PUBG Mobile earned $ 709 million in the first quarter of the year with in-game sales. When we consider this on a daily basis, we come across a figure of $7.4 million. Considering that success has emotional meanings for game companies, it is quite understandable that Tencent wants to make esports a brand for PUBG Mobile. Therefore, we see a quite huge prize pool.
With this goal in mind, Tencent Games officially announced the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2021 today during the World Invitational (PMWI). The tournament will run from November 2021 to January 2022. PUBG Mobile global esports Tencent Games director James Yang shared details about the tournament. Accordingly, the tournament will consist of the league and final stages as it was last year. The league stage will take place in November and December 2021, and the final stage will take place in January 2022. The company will continue to share details about tournament participants and rules. You can check out the video of the announcement:
PMGC 2021 participants will be determined among the teams with the most points in the league and final stages of the PUBG Mobile Pro League (PMPL). In addition, the best of the regional championships will be able to get visas for the tournament.
PMGC Begins! Will the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2021 be a live event?
We all know that the indicator of seriousness and permanence for esports is live events. Unlike online activities, it increases interaction with the audience. At the same time, it keeps the excitement fresh with the privileges and side events it offers to the participants. Well-established organizers equip these events with fine details. Thus, it contributes to the game becoming a brand in the esports scene.
Being aware of this, Tencent Games plays big as in the prize pool. According to Yang, Tencent wants a live event. They are preparing for this. They even included a few locations in their options. However, there is no clear decision on this issue yet, as there is a lot of uncertainty.
Just one day before the event held last year, the Covid-19 test of 3 players gave positive results. For this reason, the participants participated in the tournament held in Dubai Coca-Cola Arena between 21-24 January 2021 from their hotel room.
It would be fair to say that Tencent Games will be cautious this time around, given the aggressive spread of the Delta variant and the past unpleasant experience.
