There’s a new rumor about the most popular video streaming platform, Twitch. According to Twitch users, the purple brand is probably shadow-banning its users who use VPN. The shadow-banned users can’t send any messages to chat. Also, while Twitch shadow-bans these people, they don’t notify the users about the situation.
Actually, many Internet users won’t set a VPN before surfing the web. Besides that, the security of the free VPN services is quite questionable. But browsers like Opera set a VPN automatically when the user opens the browser. If you think you are ignored in the Twitch chat, that’s because you may have left the VPN open, and Twitch shadow-banned you. Moreover, there’s nothing to do to fix it.
There’s no response from Twitch about the situation, but lots of Twitch users complained about it on different platforms, like Reddit. Some Redditors said that they tested different VPNs but none of them worked. It’s not an official response from Twitch, but maybe the reason for that stance is the “trolls” of Twitch, especially the chat-spammer ones. There are some “spambots” that change their IP addresses by using a VPN when they are banned on chat.
Another Redditor told that they managed to contact Twitch support. The Twitch authority told them that they know the issue, and they are working on it. Also, another Redditor told that they did contact Twitch support too, But the response was different from the other one. This time, the Twitch authority told them that the problem is not about the website or the system. In fact, they told Redditor that it might happen because the streamer banned them.
Why Twitch Users Prefer VPN?
There will always be a community that hates Twitch, and Twitch still finds different ways to raise the number of its haters, now they put VPN users up against them. Because the number of Twitch users who set a VPN shouldn’t be underestimated. Many of them prefer VPN, one of the reasons is people from Eastern Europe are not seeing many ads compared to others. Besides that, some Twitch services are not launched in some countries, like “watch parties” and the new “betting system”. So, many Twitch users are setting VPNs for accessing those services.
