Valheim Update Makes The Boss Encounters Harder

Record breaking survival game Valheim has received a new update. Many people, including me, managed to beat all 5 bosses in the game. However, apparently developer Iron Gate Studios are surprised that some bosses were killed by players so quickly. With an update released today (0.146.8), the difficulty levels of the 3rd, 4th and 5th boss have been increased. It will now be harder to defeat Bonemass, Moder, and Yagluth.

The Full Update Changelog

  • Crafting item-dupe bug fix
  • Harpooned player & ship bug fix
  • Fixed player ragdoll
  • Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth difficulty tweaks
  • Moder music updated
  • Tombstone bugfix (probably won’t fix disappearing tombstones though)
  • Fixed world corruption caused by pressing ALT+F4 while logging out.
  • Deathsquitos have a slightly longer audio range
  • Tweaked audio on blast-furnace & spinning wheel
  • Shared map position setting is saved per world
  • Updated network stats (F2)
  • Building destruction drop-fix
  • Vulkan support in windows builds
  • Network disconnection bugfix
  • Updated socket-backend

“u guys are killing them too fast” the developer said in the patch notes. Iron Gate chief Richard Svensson detailed the boss changes on Twitter, stating that Bonemass will wait less between his melee attacks, Moder’s will have an extra 2,500hp, and Yagluth will have more resistance to some elemental damage types and have his health doubled.

The update also includes various fixes and tweaks. In some rare instances, when a player left the game with Alt-F4, their game data was corrupted. According to the developer, this problem will not be experienced anymore. This is great news, though I still think it’s a good idea to make regular backups of your Valheim world and character data. Also, the game will now remember your preference for showing your in-game location while in co-op mode, so you won’t need to enable this option on your map every time you join a specific server.

If you’re having trouble connecting to Valheim or encountering a black screen, Iron Gate recommends checking if the server is updated to the new version. Some Valheim mods might have a new version after every update. So, if you are using any of the mods in your game or server, don’t forget to download their new versions as well. Otherwise, you may experience data loss.
