While the DPC tournament is still underway, Dota 2 fans got a major news to look out for. According to some leaks, the Singapore Major that was supposed to happen in 2020 will instead be the first Dota 2 Major of 2021.
The source of the leak was a post on ONE Esports’ official site, but it was taken down almost immediately after it went up.
According to the leak, the tournament will be organized by ONE Esports & PGL. It will start on the 25th of March and conclude on April 4. Singapore indoor stadium will be the main avenue.
Dota 2 Majors are the biggest tournaments after the International. Biggest and brightest teams across the world face off during these tournaments to win fame and glory. At $500,000, the prize pool is also not too shabby.
The teams that will be invited to this major will probably be decided after the finals of DPC Season 1. You can check our weekly coverage of DPC here.
We have to note that this leak did not come from Valve directly. This means that some of these details might change depending on pandemic and individual state laws regarding international travel.
I think that it is highly likely that we will start getting live tournaments starting sometime this year. It might sag into summer, however, the likelihood of mass event cancellations that happened in 2020 is rather low at this point.
