Beşiktaş Esports Disbands Its Valorant Roster

On 8 February 2021, Beşiktaş Esports announced in its official statement on Twitter that it parted ways with its current VALORANT team. The team was embroiled in controversy when one of the players got banned without solid proof. You can check our article here for further information. Yasin “nisay” Gök, the player who got banned, made a statement. You can read it here.

Here is Beşiktaş Esports’ statement:

As the management, after the recent events, we evaluated our action plans. As a result, we decided not to participate in the next qualification as Beşiktaş. Since there was an uncertainty, to not stifle them we separated our ways with 4 players. We thank our players for their hard work and wish them success in their future careers. This is not a farewell, but a short break. We will turn to VALORANT stronger and aim higher.

After this statement, Burak “foiz” Baz, one of the players of Beşiktaş Esports, shared a long statement via Twitter. He criticized the esports system in Turkey, claiming that the understanding of esports in the country was very wrong, that the investments had to be long-term and that they could not even get coaching and analyst support from Beşiktaş Esports. He later deleted that tweet.

The investments made into Turkish esports sector lacks long term support, however, his other accusations are debatable. I think that the managers do not have the necessary knowledge and understanding of the esports culture. This situation, unfortunately, slows down the development of the esports scene. Even though the Turkish League of Legends scene has had some success, unfortunately, I cannot say the same for FPS-based competitive esports titles.
