DOTA 2 Update Adds Overwatch System

On January 27 in a blog post Valve announced that the Overwatch System has finally arrived to DOTA 2. Valve teased this feature last year. The system will work similarly to its CS:GO counterpart.

You can check Valve’s official blog post regarding this update here.

Players with good standings will be able to use this system. They can choose: guilty, not guilty, or insufficient evidence. If they are accurate enough with their picks they will get more opportunities to review such games. Valve stated that the pool of players who are eligible to inspect the reports will increase gradually.

The reporting players can mark specific times so somebody inspecting the report can have an easier time identifying if there was a violation or not.

The number of reports available to a player will be separate from commutations reports. Communication reports will now mute the specified players rather than preventing them from typing in the match. Other players can choose to unmute that player.

Overwatch bans are usually in the 30-day range, however, they can also result with permanent bans. There is a risk of losing the whole inventory associated with said game.

I find the addition of Overwatch system a net positive. As a long time DOTA 2 player, I never thought that the only system was enough to combat the toxicity of the game. You would only get a notification telling you that one of your reports helped to identify a rule breaker. This system is much more organic, however, with people being involved there is always a possibility of false positive outcome.

Tell us in the comments, what do you think about Overwatch system in DOTA 2?
